MILAN DOESN’T EXIST ANYMORE
The Milan that I knew doesn’t exist anymore, the great families such as Alemagna, Motta, Bonomi, Falck, Rizzoli, Mondadori… no longer exist. There is no longer an industrial Milan, there is the Milan of fashion, that I don’t particularly like. With all due respect, for heaven’s sake, if it wasn’t for fashion, I don’t know where Milan would have ended up, but you know I miss the cinemas. I remember the Excelsior, the Astra, the Corso… now there are only department stores. Instead of the Smeraldo there is Eataly, the Derby doesn’t exist anymore. The Milan of that time, the Milan of the 50s and 60s. I know I’m being very nostalgic, but I can’t help it. I love, I loved that Milan, now it is a beautiful city but it no longer has those cultural features. People probably had fun in another way.
IDENTITY CRISIS
Milan has suffered enormously from this crisis, it was also some kind of identity crisis, because Milan was the moral capital but after Tangentopoli it was neither the capital nor moral…
MORE TALENT AND WILL TO WORK
In those years there was probably no need to bribe to succeed or to win. Those who were better made it, and those who were less good had to keep up. It was all very meritocratic.
THE CUMENDA AND DANEE
I remember the films that made fun of my grandfather Angelo Rizzoli and mocked the cumenda of Milan, because back then the Milanese still had recognized value. The cumenda was one who worked, who made danee (money)… Now the cumenda no longer exists.
THE RULES OF THE TIME
It was ruled by an elite of great families. It wasn’t easy to get into Mil
